"Thar she blows" whale call: we were all too awestruck when the first whale breached clear of the water, only yards away, throwing a rainbow-hued arc of water off its sleek body while hurtling forty feet into the air.

Dominican Republic is fortunate to have one of the largest and best humpback breeding sanctuaries in the world. The Dominican government enforces strict whale protection laws and guidelines to ensure the safety and conservation of these wonderful animals. Whale watching can be a thrilling experience for anyone interested in nature and the preservation of our natural resources. We must continue to respect and protect these incredibly gentle giants so we can enjoy them for a long time to come.

Between January and March, up to 5,000 humpback whales make their way to Samaná Bay to mate. During this time, you can see male humpbacks standing on their tails, breaching, and generally acting like giant teenagers as they try to get female humpbacks to notice them. Taking a whale-watching tour from Samaná Bay during the season means you'll be just about guaranteed a sighting;

Rancho Wendy Action, Bonao

1809-435-7288

Excursion #1:From $29.00* USD Whitewater kayaking.

Price varies depending from starting point.

Starting your day off with a Dominican-style breakfast, it only gets better when you start your excursion on the Río Yuna in Los Quemados and realize this is not just a boring float down a river!  The Río Yuna winds through the surrounding green canyons on a run that is consistent class 1 and 2 rapids with more than a few legitimate class 3 sections.  There will be some relaxing swimming holes along the run and plenty of time for fun and sun.  Return to Rancho Wendy fatigued and ready to rest by the canal-side bonfire in the evening.  Please bring any instruments!  (pianos discouraged)

Large group discounts are available.

Excursion #2: $39.00* USD pp  Saddle up the horses

Breakfast at Rancho Wendy. Saddle up the horses and leave the ranch. Walk the horses through the rural community of Los Quemados and Las Cuevas and get to the start of the trail. Hop on and ride along the scenic mountain trail. Rest on the river by a Dominican ranch, have lunch, do some swimming, relax, rest, and continue. Navigate through the waters on the river by horse and foot, crossing over several times. Trek to a mountain village, taste the regional coffee, and start the trip back to the ranch. Have a cool beer by our stream, bathe, and get ready for the evening dinner and music. Bring your instruments for a jam session. Discotheque is also an option.

Excursion # 6  Killer Trail: $39.00* USD per person.
4 to 6 hour trek,

Indian village hike. Only one-way to get there.  Killer trail.

Leave early and hop on the exciting ride to the starting point of the trek
at the top of the mountain. Start hiking down, cross the river and several
streams where you can stop, rest and fill your water bottle. Along the way
you will walk through the small village of La Selva, where children will be
playing on the streets and the locals would love to open the local colmado
for you to have a cold drink! This hike offers gorgeous panoramic views of
the mountains that surround us, and ends with a bang at a 300 ft waterfall.

Excursion #3: $299.00* USD  3 nights 4 days all inclusive tour

Includes: Room, Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Climbing Pico Duarte, highest peak in Caribbean

Dinner and bonfire, swimming in our sweet freshwater stream or at the pool, most rooms are facing the stream. Breakfast in the morning, and off to the foot of the trail to Pico Duarte, the highest peak in the Caribbean (~10000 ft.). Get acquainted with your guides and off you go. Camping on the mountain with evening meals.

At the end of the hike an all-out party with music, dancing, and fun at the ranger station and then sleep it off. Pickup at ranger station and back to Rancho Wendy.

All meals, guides, mules, sleeping bags, tents, all fees to the park, and transportation will be provided.  Just bring me M&Ms.

Excursion #4: $10.00* USD per person Dynamic ropes course

Our dynamic ropes course is a great opportunity for groups and individuals of all ages to safely learn about risk-taking, their own perceived limits, how they perform under pressure, how they give and receive support from other people, and how working with others collaboratively can help an individual achieve more than they thought they could accomplish. Put on a harness, climb up the ladder to the first platform, clip into the safety cable, and begin your passage. Overcome the various obstacles and challenges until reaching the final platform. At last, clip into the zip line and slide 250 feet down to the end of the course.

Excursion #5: from $29.00* USD per person Trek and ride to Charco Bonito, an exquisite waterfall located near Los Quemados. The hike to the waterfall passes through thick forest and glades, but is not very strenuous.

This hike or ride winds out of Rancho Wendy through Los Quemados and along the river to an incredibly original bridge.  Depending on the route you take, this trip can be longer or shorter.  The longer path includes passing through a little mountain town in the surrounding hills where Chocolate production is the main source of income.  Both trails include meandering paths through the luscious jungles, and if your timing is right don’t forget to look for the local passion fruit for a fresh snack!  After stretching your legs a little or just when your rear is ready for a break you’ll find yourself at a pool fed by a beautiful waterfall.  You may say that all waterfalls are beautiful and you are pretty much correct!  However, not all falls are great water slides as well!  If you are with a daring guide and feeling adventurous yourself you can boulder up the cliffs along the serious of multiple falls.  At the top of which you will find a much longer cascade: slide down, jump off the next two and finish with a slide down the first or a dive off the cliff next to it.

"Personally, the adrenaline from that serious adventure had me high all day. Doing flips off the falls with the local boys was one of the best adventures I’ve found in the Dominican Republic!"

Tour Pico Duarte

Discover the Caribbean, Discover Yourself

Experience the trek of distinctive landscape, virtually untouched by tourism, to the highest mountain in the Caribbean, Pico Duarte. In the heart of the Cordillera Central region of the Dominican Republic, stunning vistas await your arrival.

A 3-day trek with pack mules will take you 3,175 meters above sea level through lush rain forests laden with giant fronds, rooted banyon trees, and villagers pounding coffee, washing clothes, and driving teams of enormous oxen.  These dense tropical forests are also home to such rare birds as the Hispañiolan Parrot, Hispañiolan Woodpecker, White-necked Crow, Hispañiolan Trogon, the Red-tailed Hawk, wild boar, and 47 reported amphibians and reptiles.

Twelve major rivers rush through this glorious landscape, including the two largest rivers in the Caribbean.

Although less than two hours from Miami and in the very heart of the Caribbean, the summit of Pico Duarte is often covered with frost and is not uncommon in the winter months to reach temperatures of 18 F or -8 C.

For those who accept the challenge and make this spectacular adventure to the pinnacle of Pico Duarte, the reward is truly unforgettable, as you discover the undiscovered.  Exploration in this exotically stunning landscape is all about discovering yourself.

Santo Domingo (The Capital)

One of the most beautiful colonial cities of the New World and certainly the oldest. Discover the first cathedral of America; the Columbus Alcazar, where his son Diego ruled as Viceroy; the first court of law. Here, men like Hernán Cortés, Ponce de León and Rodrigo de Bastidas lived, loved and plotted conquests. They set sail from this port in search of adventure, gold and new lands for the crown of Spain. Drake held the city ransom and, like a jealous lover, almost destroyed Santo Domingo. Museums, restaurants, bars, and galleries inhabit the old city today, but there are still magic moments to be captured in many a secluded romantic courtyard. The modern city provides excellent shopping, cosmopolitan restaurants, and nightlife with all the rhythm of the Caribbean. The port area surrounding the cruise ship terminal on la Avenida Del Puerto, greets an endless flow of traffic. Discos, clubs and casinos light up Santo Domingo nights.

Sosua

A town known for its multilingual and cosmopolitan character, Sosua is a real jewel of a town and offers idyllic beaches, many guest houses, hotels, villas, terrace cafés, pubs and restaurants.

Samana

One of the most beautiful tours in Dominican Republic is the Visit to the Sanctuary of Humpback Whales in Samana. Samana's whales are well known. Each year 3 to 5 thousand humpback whales return to Bahia de Samana and adjacent waters to give birth and mate for the following year. From January until March, frolicsome males can be observed competing for the attentions of shy females. Sky-rocketing, standing on their tails (and heads, too!), flippering, tailing and all sorts of antics. Excursions leave from several points along the north shore of the bay. Samana's whales are truly an international treasure and are fully protected by the Dominican government.

Bonao

Bonao is a jewel of a town that offers hotels, terrace cafes, pubs and restaurants, cultural center, clubs, golf, hiking, biking, horseback riding, mountain climbing, exploring taino caves.

Every year it explodes into a riot of colour and energy as the enthusiastic townsfolk celebrate one of the the most attractive and hedonistic carnivals around. In fact, throughout the year, the people of Bonao are always looking for a reason to party.

Bonao has been advancing towards modernity with remarkably good taste. The splendid Plaza de la Cultura leads the way - a haven for artists, musicians, dancers and curious visitors. In addition, an array of sophisticated eateries and bars has emerged alongside the old lanes of charming Antillean merchant stores. In short, one can enjoy the thriving new tourist attractions while still absorbing the placid provinicial ambience.

Perhaps Bonao's greatest asset is its proximity to the Cordillera Central. The cool mountain villages of Los Quemados and Blanco are like a window to another time. Here more than anywhere in the country you'll encounter the authentic, warm hospitality of the Dominican campo.

It's a pleasure to wander along endless roads and trails that offer breathtaking views of the mountains and wide landscapes - a hidden jewel for treasure seekers and adventurers.

Boca Chica

The south east coast enjoys fine golden beaches. It’s a beautiful resort area with hotels and private villas, accommodations and sweeping panoramic ocean views.

Cabarete

Cabarete has developed an international reputation as host to major windsurfing competitions. With its six kilometers of beach, it offers hotels and condominiums and enjoys a prosperous community life.

Jarabacoa and Constanza

A mountain town complete with fresh air, waterfalls, river rapids, pine trees and refreshing temperatures. The leading tour operators have created special adventure tours for those who appreciate the challenges of the mountains. These include river rafting, canyoning, trekking, tubing, paragliding, horseback riding and jeep safari. Mountain climbing in the Caribbean, an unforgettable experience!

Las Terrenas

Once a sleepy, little fishing village on the North Coast of the Samana Peninsula, today's Las Terrenas is a prime vacation destination for visitors to the Dominican Republic.
With miles of undeveloped white-sandy beaches and protected inshore waters, this city of over 11,000 people is a bustling center of activity. And although fishing is still an important part of local life, the allure of this tropical paradise has fueled its growth to become an important part of the world's rapidly growing, recreational market. Very cool place, wind, kite and board surfing to the max with fab nightlife

Playa Dorada

Four kilometers from Puerto Plata is Playa Dorada with its major resort hotels, beach facilities, tennis clubs, Robert Trent Jones designed 18 hole golf course, shopping mall, great restaurants, all in a self-contained world of pleasure. Just minutes from the International Airport of Puerto Plata, Playa Dorada is one of the great tourism destinations.

Playa Grande

Dominican Republic Playa Grande offers 740 acres of coconut palms and lush vegetation, bordered by 1600 meters of white powder fine beach. It holds a spectacular oceanfront 18 hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., in a manner that takes full advantage of its Atlantic host: 8 holes follow the ocean from tee to green!

Santiago

It is the most important city after Santo Domingo, and is the principal urban center for the fertile Cibao agricultural region, known for some of the finest tobacco in the world.

Santiago’s new cultural center rivals that of the capital, while its Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra stands as one of the country’s finest universities. Santiago is the cradle of the Merengue, the national rhythm that has put us on the map! This gracious city has also given the nation its greatest number of presidents.

The Monument of the Heroes of the Restoration is a proud landmark, visible throughout the city. 67 meters high, it contains murals by the Spanish artist Vela Zanetti.

Another highlight is the Tomás Morel Museum of Folkloric Art with its colorful collection of carnival masks.
